Buildings that were empty. Phones that were quiet.

Every number on this page came from a real business. Where a figure is Google’s own estimate rather than a bank statement, it says so.

The Arthur · Carteret, New Jersey

A brand new building with nobody in it.

New construction is the hardest version of this problem. No residents, no reviews, no history for anyone to find, and a construction loan that does not wait while you figure it out.
By month three it was on page one for people searching for apartments in Carteret. By month five it was 75 to 80 percent occupied, holding a 4.5 star rating the whole way through lease-up.
Today it is the first name Google’s AI gives when somebody asks about apartments in that town. It goes further than a listing. The detail Google repeats about the dog run is sourced to arthurcarteret.com, so it is reading the building’s own site and handing it back as the answer.
Across the work, calls, clicks and requests for directions added up to more than 3,500 actions from people trying to reach the building. An early batch of 202 of those carried an estimated value of $303,000.
Estimated value is Google’s own figure, not a closed-books number.

An established apartment building · New Jersey

Getting found in a state they are not in.

The building is in New Jersey, across the water from Staten Island. Plenty of the people who would happily live there were sitting on the New York side, paying New York prices, and never thinking to search New Jersey for an apartment.
So the target was not home turf. It was a different state.

The same corner of the map, five months apart, for somebody in Staten Island searching “1 bedroom apartments”. Every dark red pin is a search where the building did not come up at all. One of the points on the right is a first place result.
By month six it was down to six empty units.
An elevator contractor · Seattle area, Washington

Nobody searches for an elevator company by name.

They search the problem. A flooded pit. An inspection coming up. A modernization that has been put off for three years. For a commercial contractor, being found means being the answer to the problem.
We checked 169 points across their service area against the eight things people actually search for. They came up in the top three for most of it.
Ask Gemini about elevator maintenance around there and it names them.

Buckner Homes Realty · Ocala, Florida

A realtor who found out AI was sending her clients.

Page one for people searching for realtors in Ocala, showing up across 28 different searches, and a five star rating across 143 reviews.
“Three people called me in a couple of days and said ChatGPT or Google sent them, asking about new construction and first-time buying. It has me wondering why I am still paying for my most expensive Google ad.”

Her analytics show what happened next. 175 sessions from ChatGPT this year, peaking at 43 in June. They did not arrive on the homepage. They landed on those same guides, and those are the pages that turned into enquiries.
That is the part almost nobody can show you. Not that an AI mentioned a business, but that the mention sent a real person who then got in touch.
A marriage and family practice · Florida

A practice that needed the phone to ring.

Calls and clicks added up to 756 actions, carrying an estimated value of $109,350.
Ask ChatGPT about marriage therapy in Plantation and they are the first name it gives. A second location in Tampa was showing up in the top three across half its service area.

A logistics company · Central New Jersey

One warehouse among hundreds.

Central New Jersey is wall to wall freight. Being one operator among hundreds along the turnpike means nobody finds you by looking, they find you because somebody already gave them your name.
In January the company did not come up anywhere across its service area for the search that describes what it does.

A client emailing to say a lead had arrived from ChatGPT, and treating it as news worth announcing. That reaction is the whole reason this page exists: most businesses have no idea whether it is happening to them.
